2017-04-13 - Caitlin Muir was a strong offensive presence for HFL in their 17-10 win over previously undefeated Spencerport.  The Rangers and the Cougars had not played eachother in 10 years.  The Cougars won their last three contests in 2006 (2) and 2007.

The first half was extremely close before HFL took off in the beginning of the second half and secure their win.  The first goal of the game was scored 0:27 into the game with Erin Coykendall checking the ball loose during a clear and sending the ball into the net. Just over a minute later, HFL tied the score with Muir's first goal.  The teams continued to alternate goals until HFL scored three in a row in the span of two minutes to go up 5-3.  The Cougars never trailed again, although the Rangers never gave up the pressure.

HFL continued to attempt to pull away, but Spencerport kept the score close, but answering most of the Cougar goals.  With 6:12 remaining in the first half, Muir scored her third goal with a strong single player dodge.  She received a pass from Eliza Wild approximately 5m off the crease.  She ducked inside the two defenders and scored with a low shot past the keeper.  Two minutes later, Payton Reed scored for the Cougars off a broken clear.  She stripped the ball near midfield and pushed it up for a fast break goal.  The Cougars led 9-6 with 4:26 remaining in the half.  Each team finished the half with one more goal.  Spencerport scored on an 8m free position from Coykendall.  She finished with 4g-3a for the Rangers.  HFL added the final goal of the half with a cross crease feed from Paige Smith to Kierin Ratliff.  The Cougars led 10-7 at halftime.

In the second half, Spencerport scored the first goal before HFL responded with the next six goals.  The opening Ranger goal was scored by Coykendall.  She received a pass from Paige Pohleven on the crease as she cut across.  She finished with a behind the back shovel shot into the back of the cage.  The Cougar's next three goals involved Muir.  The first a floating pass from the middle to Hailey McCarty and the second a feed from the left flat to Smith.  The third was an unassisted inside dodge by Muir.  The Cougars continued to increase their lead until they led 16-8 with 7:18 remaining on the clock.  Spencerport's final goal of the game began with an interception by Natalie Choate.  Choate then found Coykendall open within shooting distance.

HFL was strong on the draw winning 20/29.  Only three players for the Cougars controlled a draw with Brittany Chamberlain taking the majority of draws and grabbing her own possession 10 times.  Reed finished with another 8 and Muir with 2.  Reed also finished with team leading five groundballs. For the Rangers, Coykendall gained control on 6 of her teams 9 draws.  In the cage for Spencerport, Kiari Rufus finished with 3 saves.  For HFL, Bridgete Keifer recorded 9 saves.  Additionally, junior defenseman Hailey Bushnell had a standout game with multiple strong defensive stops.  She turned back a number of drives from Spencerport and often fought hard to clear the ball for HFL.  Although she only finished with one statistic, she demonstrated why numbers are not everything and one player can make a difference without high statistics.
