Rain Delay Cancels Most Games

Most games were cancelled today due to the weather.  Three games remained on the schedule.  Marcus Whitman defeated Geneva 16-9 and Pittsford defeated HFL 13-6.  Penn Yan vs. Newark was cancelled late in the day and rescheduled for tomorrow. Full Story

Five Rescheduled Games

Five games were scheduled for today, most of which were rescheduled from yesterday's rain storm.  Mercy defeated Aquinas 9-8 in double overtime in the closest contest of the day.  Irondequoit defeated Spencerport 11-10, Pal-Mac defeated Waterloo 14-3, Penn Yan defeated Newark 13-3 and Schroeder defeated Livonia 18-4. Arnold Leads Pal-Mac

Pal-Mac scored the first 11 goals in their 14-3 win over Waterloo.  Sophomore Emma Arnold had a standout game for the Red Raiders.  She finished with 4g-2a, 4 draw controls, 5 ground balls and 1 caused turnover.  She was also a key defensive player in the game.  Between the pipes, Sophia Leva also had a strong game for Pal-Mac, she recorded 6 saves and had 3 interceptions when she left the pipes. Fourty of the fifty scheduled games were played this week, with rain and inclement weather plaguing the Section.  Three games went to overtime with Mercy defeating Aquinas 9-8 (HERE), Ath/Ody defeating Eastridge 9-8 (HERE) to secure their first win of the season and Geneva defeating Midlakes 12-11 (HERE).  Brighton (10-0) continued to remain the only undefeated team.  Pittsford (11-1 - Loss to Brighton) and Pal-Mac (10-1 - Loss to HFL) are the only two teams with a single loss.  Another 47 games are scheduled for the upcoming week. Waterloo Scores Seven Straight to Start Second Half

Wayne hosted their fifth annual “Cradle for a Cure” event today. Waterloo defeated the Eagles 17-9.  The “Cradle for a Cure” event began five years ago as a fundraising/awareness event after a local lacrosse player received a cancer diagnosis.  Every year since, Wayne has hosted a multigame event with boys and girls lax with the hope of donating to both local charities and a local family in need of assistance.  After this game, the Boys hosted Gananda and defeated the Panthers 23-5 (HERE). Daly Leads Brockport with Six Goals

Brockport scored the first 13 goals in their 15-3 win over Eastridge.  The Blue Devils have won the last 12 times the teams have faced spanning 10 years.  The Blue Devils offense played a great game and controlled the pace of the game throughout.  Brockport finished with 16/20 draw controls.  This led to them re-gaining possession after scoring on multiple occasions and never giving the Lancers a shot on offense.   Full Story

Canandaigua Fights Back in Second Half

Canandaigua came back from trailing by three to defeat Webster Schroeder 11-9.  The Braves scored six unanswered goals to end the first half and start off the second.  Canandaigua scored the first goal of the game with an unassisted goal from Emma O’Neill.  The Warriors responded with three in a row to take the lead.  Payton Lill scored two with Madison Bell scoring the third.  Canandaigua stayed close and tied the game at 3-3 and 4-4.  Webster scored their fifth goal with another unassisted goal from Lill.  0:12 later, Abby Moon scored for the Warriors.  Bell recorded her second assist to Kelsey Nelson with 8:44 remaining in the first half. The Warrior did not score again until 8:44 remained in the second half. Full Story

Mapstone Leads Mynderse over East Rochester

After a close first half, Mynderse pulled away in the last 10 minutes of the first half to defeat East Rochester 15-6.  The Bombers came out of the gate strong and took a 3-0 lead.  The first goal was scored with a drive from behind the cage by Madilynn Walsh.  Mariah Quinzi scored the next two goals for East Rochester off 8m free position shots.  Over half the total goals were scored off 8m shots (8 for Mynderse and 4 for East Rochester).  Myndere’s opening goal was scored by Sarah Shaffer on the 8m line.  East Rochester’s fourth goal was a textbook give and go with Courtney Brock passing off to Sarah Griffin before cutting. Glagolev Leads Thomas to Victory

Thomas scored the first eight goals in their 13-10 win over Pal-Mac.  The Titans Emily Glagolev finished with 4g-1a and a team leading 10 draw controls.  She was one of the major factors in the win, making her presence known on offense and defense.  Her dominance at the draws caused the Red Raiders to double her at the circle.  That gave Gabriella Vasile free reign on the far side to win four draws herself.  The possession control helped the Titans control the pace of the game. Bell and Lill Lead Schroeder to Victory

After a close first half, Webster Schroeder pulled away with four unanswered goals early in the second half.  The Warriors defeated Brockport 13-8.  Schroeder scored the opening goal and although Brockport forced three ties, the Warriors never trailed.  Payton Lill (3g-2a) and Madison Bell (5g) led in scoring for Schroeder.  Leah Daly (4g-1a) led for the Blue Devils. Sectional Seeding - FINAL

Below are the tables for the final Sectional seeds.  There is a single tie in the Class D Tournament.  Mynderse and Marcus Whitman both finished with a 5.0625 average.  The first tie breaking procedure is head to head match-ups.  Mynderse defeated Marcus Whitman on May 9th so Mynderse take seed #5 and Marcus Whitman takes seed #6. Last Games of the Regular Season

The last three games of the regular season were played today.  Canandaigua over Hilton 9-8 was the closest game.  Marcus Whitman defeated Gananda 10-8 and Ath/Ody defeated Eastridge 13-6.  With the season completed,final seeding for Sectionals has been announced. Full Story

Out Bracket Games

There are seven Out Bracket Games in Section Five this season. Class B has five match-ups and Class D has two match-ups.  Two games are scheduled for Friday May 19th and five are scheduled for Saturday May 20th. Class A and Class C do not have Out Bracket matches. Full Story

End of Week #9

The final games of the season were played and Brighton finished the season 16-0 and head in Sectionals undefeated.  Pittsford (15-1) also finished off their season with their only loss coming from Brighton.  The closest match-up of the week was Waterloo's double overtime win over Aquinas  13-12. Quarter Final Match-ups

With only 4 teams in Class A, their tournament will not begin until the Semi-Finals.  The remaining three classes will play their Quarter Finals on May 23rd and 24th with the higher seed having a home game. Full Story

Brighton Pulls Away in Second Half

Top seeded Brighton scored a four goal stretch to end the first half and begin the second half to defeat #8 seeded Irondequoit 9-6.  Irondequoit led for a large portion of the first half, and remained competitive before Brighton began to pull away in the early second half. Full Story

Smith Leads Canandigua to Victory

Second seeded Canandaigua scored five unanswered goals to take the lead late in the first half and never let up in their 11-7 win over seventh seeded Schroeder.  The Warriors kept up their play until the end; but every time they attempted to tie the game, the Braves had a response.  The turning point of the game came at 10:47 with Peyton Smith’s third goal of the game.  She scored on a broken clear that turned the momentum from in favor of the Warriors to squarely with the Braves.  Smith led the offense with 4g-1a and was a major factor during the defensive clearing ride. Geneva Scores 10 Straight in Win

Geneva scored 10 unanswered goals in their 14-6 win over Eastridge.  This was the first time since before 2005 that the Panthers and Lancers have faced.  Audra Burrall had a great game between the pipes and recorded 9 saves for Geneva.  Offensively, Lauren DeVaney finished with 5g-2a to lead the Panthers. Wayne Wins First Sectional Game in Program History

Wayne scored four of the last five goals to pull away and defeat Newark 9-4.  This was the first Sectional win in program history for the Eagles.  The game was close for most of the first half, before the Eagles began to pull away.  As the second half continued, Newark could not close the gap and Wayne slowly expanded their lead. Semi-Final Match-ups

The Semi-Final matches will be played over the next two days.  In all four tournaments that top 4 seeds advanced to the semi-finals. Class B and Class D will play on May 26th at Pittsford Sutherland and Eastridge. Class A and Class C will play on May 27th at HFL and Schroeder.

After the first night of games, both #1 seeds were defeated by the #4 seeds.  Penn Yan avenged their earlier loss in the regular season with a 13-6 win over top seeded Waterloo and Thomas avenged their overtime loss to Brighton in the regular season with an 8-6 win.  The #2 seeds (Canandaigua and Pal-Mac) both advanced.  The Braves will face the Titans and the Red Raiders will face the Mustangs on Tuesday May 30th. - Pal-MacThere has been quite a write-in campaign today asking for a time change in the Championship schedule so that fans and families supporting the Pal-Mac boys and girl`s teams could see both games. Although the boys and girls committees worked hard to avoid conflicts, it turns out that the Boys (in Class C) and the girls (in Class D) were scheduled for the same time. Full Story

Finals Match-ups

Canandaigua VictoryThe Sectional Finals will be played over the next two days. Class B and Class D will play first on Tuesday May 30th at Pittsford Sutherland. With Canandaigua vs. Thomas starting at 5:00 and Pal-Mac vs, Penn Yan starting at 7:00.  Class C and Class A will play second on Wednesday May 31st at Webster Schroeder.  With Mercy vs. HFL starting at 5:00 and Pittsford vs. Penfield starting at 7:00. At the conclusion of the Class B Tournament, the All Tournament Team was announced.  The Team consists of the top 13 players in the Class B Tournament this year.  There are 12 regular spots and an MVP spot. Full Story
