South Jefferson Defeats Mercy

Section III powerhouse South Jefferson earned a 14-8 victory against Mercy in a non-league game on Thursday. The Monarchs trailed by only 4-3 after the first quarter but then allowed four unanswered goals before halftime and were unable to mount a second-half comeback.

Leading the attack for South Jefferson was Amalia Netto with six goals. Emma Kelley (2g/2a), Lily Morrison (2g/1a), and Lydia Tremont (2g/1a) were also key offensive contributors. Emma Vespa made four saves.

Mia Lusardi led Mercy with three goals and one assist. Mia Quagrello added two goals and one assist, and Audrey Seibold, Krista Harnischfeger, and Sydney Cook scored one goal apiece. Maeve Shanahan and Angelina Borrelli each contributed an assist. Mercy goalie Elinor Meyer helped keep the game close, making eight saves.

With the win, South Jefferson improves to 13-1 on the season, while Mercy moves to 9-3. Mercy will look to bounce back in its next game against Ithaca (section IV) on Saturday.    [ Story and BOX SCORE
