Friday: Season opens

DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY -  The 2023 season opened today at Churchville-Chili where Penfield saw eleven different players scored goals. 

PENFIELD-17 at CHURCHVILLE-CHILI-1 -  Penfield and Churchville-Chili had the honor of kicking-off the 2023 Section V Girls Lacrosse regular season tonight as the lone game on the docket.  Penfield ran away from the Saints 17-1.  Freshman Peyton Rothfuss led all scorers with 4 goals and 3 assists, while junior attacker, Emerson Mathis also accounted for heavy offensive production with 3 goals and 2 assists.  Penfield's balanced offensive attack featured eleven different players finding their way into the scorebook.  Sophomore midfielder Aleah Petre earned additional possessions for Penfield, leading the team with 4 groundballs, and Penfield's defensive team effort held Churchville to just 1 goal all evening.  

For Churchville-Chili, Campbell Hewlett scored their lone goal on an 8-mater shot, and although the Saints gave up 17 goals, Goalkeeper Mikayla Mellenthine saved 14 shots.  Penfield will face Fairport next Friday in an early season Class A marquee match-up, and Churchville-Chili will look to rebound next Thursday against HF-L.      [BOXSCORE]
